The More Data You Have, the Clearer You See

The IBM marketing machine has been turning out various commercials that discuss data. What it is, how much of it there is, how it can be used, how channeling it can help your business, and how it can help the planet. The argument goes, if we can mine and analyze the data, then we can understand it. If we can understand it, then we can spot trends and make adjustments along the way — whether or not it is your individual health care, energy, your business, your baby’s health, or the health of the planet.

I thought the company’s use of a baby as an infographic was a bit much, but, otherwise, IBM makes some pretty compelling arguments to Get With the Data Analysis Picture. One area the ads do not discuss that is important to data analysis is data quality. Word: GIGO.
