Scientists have developed technology using carbon nanotubes that may permanently preserve individual bits of data. This means that it may now be possible to create digital data archives that will last not just for 100 years, but possibly, forever.
The technology promises to solve the problem of the physical media degradation that is common to tape, DVD, and CDs, among others. Skeptics warn that all technology is subject to error.
I think it sounds promising, but I am doubtful that any media can last “forever”.
